VISIODRY is a superhydrophobic coating whose development draws on a property observed in nature, and notably in lotus and nasturtium leaves. These leaves have a coarse hydrophobic surface that traps air beneath each drop of water. As a result, each water droplet behaves as though buffered by an air cushion, showing no affinity for the surface. Known as the “lotus effect”, this phenomenon gives the surface self-cleaning properties that are beneficial for the plant: water droplets simply roll off the surface, taking dust and particles with them.
